School activities

Here I would like to write about school activities. Our school starts at 8 o’clock in the morning. But students come to school at 7:30 because every morning we have morning line-up assembly where all grades stay in their row for example starting from 7th grades till 11th grades in row. And principal or vice principal come and greet all and check all who has uniforms. And if there any announcements vice principal announce. And also in this morning line- up administration of school announce about achievement of school and pride of our school. The awarding ceremonies also take place in morning line up in front all students in our school. And the same line up, we have in the afternoon shift for 5th 6th 7th classes.

Another things that every week some subjects have its day in our school for example “ day of Tajik language”, “day of English Language”, “day of Russian language”, day of History and Right “. And this activity is held in morning line up. It takes 10 minutes. Student from different classes prepare something and perform in morning line up. In English language day in morning line up I as English language teacher tell to my students to show their knowledge in English. They can recite poems, sing songs, and tell about different topics and stories. I say to my students they must take part in English language and overcome their fear and shyness performs in front of big audience of people.

School Uniform! Teacher’s Voice.

School Uniform!
Teacher’s Voice.

On September 25th, 2010 I had an interview with, a Civil Rights and
History teacher from school #2, Abdulloeva Obida Safaralievna. I asked
her some questions about school uniform in order to know what teachers
think about it.
So this was our interview:

Madina Khakimova (M.K.): 1.How many years do you work at this school?
Teacher (T.): I have worked as a teacher at this school for 23 years.
M.K.: 2.What kind of subjects do you teach?
T.: I teach Civil Rights and History.
M.K.: 3.Which class are you responsible for ?
T.: I am responsible for the 8th grade.
M.K.: How many students do you have in your class?
T.: I have 27 students in my class.
M.K.: 4.How many of your students come to school without school uniform?
T.: This year I have only one girl who is not wearing school uniform
because her parents don’t let her to, and she is coming to school in
her national dress.
M.K.: 5.How can she wear national dress at school if students must
wear school uniform?
T.: Certainly, its right, students must wear school uniform, but in
her case her parents went to our city Government and asked permission
for their daughter to wear a national dresses at school instead of
uniform, so our government allowed her to wear dresses, but the
dresses suppose to be only black or white no colorful fabrics. But
students are not allowed to wear hijab or a veil.
M.K.: 6.What kind of punishments do you have for a student who comes
without school uniform? Do you send him/her back home and make him/her
to wear school uniform? Do you scold them? Do you just let them sit in
the back of class and just telling them to wear school uniform
tomorrow immediately?
T.: As for me if my students come without school uniform first
I will ask the reason why he/she came without school uniform. If my
student had some reasonable case I will let him/her to stay and sit in
the back, also I’ll tell other teachers to let him/her to be without
school uniform that day, and if my student live close to school I will
let him to go and to change clothes. But if my student would come
without any reason without school uniform I will make them go home and
change clothes, I will forgive them first time but will ask them never
repeat it again.
M.K.: 7.And do you have any student in your class or at school
who doesn’t have school uniform because he/she is from a poor family
that doesn’t have opportunity to buy their child a school uniform?
T.: I don’t have such students this year, but we had one
student like that last year. He was a senior and his family didn’t
have enough money to buy him a school uniform.
M.K.: 8.What did you do with that student? Did you help him? And
if you did, how did you help him?
T.: Yes we did help that boy. All his classmates gathered money
and bought school uniform for him. Besides of school uniform we helped
him to pay fees for his books too.
M.K.: 9.That’s very nice of you and his classmates. So as a teacher
and just as a person what is your opinion about school uniform?
T.: My opinion is good about school uniform. I am really pleased with
our students, and really glad that they are wearing school uniforms. I
think our students look very pretty when they are wearing school
uniforms. I think every person suppose to have house clothes for house
for street; school clothes for school; and formal clothes to wear to
some meetings or to some holidays, its just like we have a schedule at
school or schedule of our day, so is our clothes we have different
clothes for different circumstances in our life time.
M.K.: 10. But what about students from the families under privilege
families, what if they can’t buy school uniform do they need just to
stay at home and don’t go to school?
T.: That’s a good question. And I have an answer for it too. Our
Government made a Law in our Constitution that all people must get
education, and no one should be left behind because doesn’t have
money, the education for people are free of charge. But another Law
for students is that all students must wear school uniforms. And if
student doesn’t have such opportunity, it doesn’t mean that he must
stay at home because everyone suppose to get education , that student
will just get help from school. School and students will always help a
child from a poor family to buy school uniform. And our government
also makes some charities for poor families. So it’s not that awful
problem for student, the main thing it’s to get knowledge from school
and the uniform is on the second place. We are always ready to help
our students in order to see them educated. And also even if it is a
Democracy nowadays and everyone can say his own opinion nevertheless
we must obey our Law that we have in Constitution, we can’t change
Laws and students must wear school uniform, its student’s
responsibility and one of the rights to obey the Laws of Tajik
Constitution. But if you have uniform it doest mean you are a good
student, you must to study well and to be a good citizen of your
country.

This was our not very long conversation with our teacher about school
uniform. So as it was the second interview about school uniform I
understood what people think about school uniform better. The first
interview was with a parent who had a positive opinion and the second
interview was with a teacher who also was very positive about school
uniform. So from our two interviews I can make a conclusion that
school uniform is a very good decision because teachers and parents
for it. And no matter if some people don’t have money to buy it school
and just kind people can help that child just in order to make that
child to be educated.
And school uniform also helps us to realize who is student and who is
teacher, because some of our older grades are tall and look like
teachers already but when you see that they are wearing white shirts
and black skirts or trousers you can say this is a student and not a
teacher

Interview about “School Uniform”!

Interview about “School Uniform”!

Parent’s Voice

On the September the 20th I (Madina Khakimova) took an interview with a woman (Guli) who has 4 children. Our interview was about school uniform, and she told me where she bought uniforms for her kids and what she thinks about school uniform.

This was our dialogue from the interview:

Khakimova Madina (M.K): 1. How many children do you have?
Student’s mother (M): I have 4 children: 3 boys and 1 girl.
K.M: 2.How old they are, and which grade they are in?
M: My older son-Komyor-is 12 years old, he is in the 6th grade; my second son-Bakhtiyor-is 9 years old, he is in the 3rd grade; my daughter-Dil’noza-is 7 years old, she is in the 1st grade, and my younger son-Isfandiyor-is 5 years old, he is not a schoolboy yet.
K.M: 3. How much did it cost you to buy school uniform for your kids?
M: It cost us about 900 somoni, because we bought for our kids school uniforms and also school stuff.
K.M: 4.How many shirts, skirts or suits have you bought?
M: I bought for both of my sons one suit for each, and for my daughter a shirt, a skirt and a school dress.
M.K.: 5.Where do you work?
M: I am a housewife, but my husband works at the military.
M.K: 6.Was it expensive for you to buy school uniform or not very much?
M: It was not too expensive for three kids I think. My husband provide our family, and we are doing everything for our kids in order to make them educated, it doesn’t matter how much the clothes cost the main think for us is to see our kids going to school and see them as a good, bright students at school . So we can be proud of them.
M.K: 7. Where did you buy school uniforms?
M: We bought them in the big market in Kurgan-Tyube.
M.K: 8. What kind of fabric its made of?
M: All the school clothes that we buy for our kids are made of cotton.
M.K: 9. Do you know where these clothes were produced?
M: Yes, sure! Most of these school clothes were produced in Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan and China.
M.K: 10.Do you buy new clothes for your children every year?
M: Yes we buy new school clothes for kids every year.
M.K: And what do you do with school uniforms that got small for your children?
M: Usually I give them away to some our neighbors or friends who have not such privileges to buy school uniforms for their kids; we are supporting them by giving them school uniform.
M.K: 11.What do you think about school uniform? Are you for or against it?
M: I am for school uniform because I think it makes students look very nice, cute and as a real schoolchildren. When kids are in their school uniform, you can say that they are going to school. You just can distinguish school pupils from children that are playing on the street. I really like the way our students look like in school uniform. I wish to all students to be very nice polite and always study well at school.

After our interview I Madina Khakimova 11th grade student made a conclusion that this woman was agree that students must wear school uniform, and that it’s a really good sign to understand if this is student from school or student who is just playing on the street. She had a really positive opinion about school clothes and said that it makes her proud when she sees her kids in school uniform going to school.
Also I learnt something new about our school uniform, honestly I never paid attention if the clothes are from Tajikistan or from foreign country and today I understood about where our uniform is coming from.

This was an interview with a family that was able to provide their kids with school uniform. But think that there are a lot of families where their father or mother works in Russia or even doesn’t have a job, and can’t provide their kids with school uniforms because it is too expensive for them.
So what to do in order to help them? We know that it’s a school law to wear a school uniform and without it we can’t go to school. So the main decision to help poor families is by giving them school uniforms from the families which have opportunity to buy school uniform, as our interviewer makes. Also we can gather money, do some charities in order to help poor students to buy school uniform which is very important at our schools. We can find different ways to help poor families and their kids, so if we help them they will be able to go to school and get education on equal rights with all other students, and the main thing is not how much your school uniform cost or how cool it is, the main think is to see students going to school and getting education. If we have smart educated kids it means we have a bright, advanced future!

Unifrom before Independence

Before school Uniform

The style of Soviet school uniform was modernized in 1962, and since that time was modified each decade. There could be some variations across different Soviet Republics. Boys generally wore dark blue pants and jackets, girls — brown dresses with black aprons and black bows (on special occasions, white aprons and bows were worn). The members of the Young Pioneer organization, to which literally every student belonged, wore famous red neckties. Special sport uniforms also existed for physical education classes. In the early 1980s, a dark blue three-piece suit was introduced for girls and the strict rules on haircuts were loosened.
In 1992, mandatory school uniforms were abolished. Today, there is no unified standard uniform in Russia; however, certain schools may have their own uniform that students are required to wear. Educational institutions without a uniform may also have a certain dress code.
There is also a modern-day tradition for girls to dress into brown Soviet-style school uniform for their graduation ceremony.

Uniform

Uniforms
All Tajik schools have a uniform and it is the same regardless of the school you go to. There is a distinct Soviet influence, but the uniform is not the same as worn in Soviet days. During Soviet time our parents told us about their uniform. For girls were brown or black dress with white apron and tie and for boys white shirt, and tie. There are no distinctive uniforms for individual schools. After the break of Soviet Union our country become independent country and we have now our school uniform. It is simple. The boys wear a black uniform, a long trouser suit, with matching black waistcoat, white shirt and tie. The uniform for girls is also black. It is a black skirt and white blouse. The girls wore blouses done in different styles, but they are all white. Girls wear white ankle socks and black shoes. They also wear large white bows in their hair. The tie they have is made of silk. It is red, green and white, the colors of the Tajikistan flag. It is recognition that these children have attained an educational standard of excellence at their school.
