Access girls' Day

On the 10thof October, 25 Access students we two alumni Zeboniso Murodova and Aziza Shamurodova SUSI alumni celebrated International Girl's Day with Kushoiyon ACCESS student. Day of the Girl is a day to celebrate and advocate for the rights of girls around the world. Girls have a unique ability to change the world and the lives of those around them. One of the best parts of my job is collaborating with other alumni of the US State Department program. Together with SUSI alumna Aziza we prepared very fantastic activities. Activity 1 was called Hero Tree, each girl wrote their female heroes ad shared with other girls. I was so happy the majority of girls wrote my name in their tree. The next activity was encouraging their self-confidence by drawing their self-portraits. Students wrote a positive saying about themselves. What about the ACCESS boys? Active participation of boys and their support is very necessary and Aziza Shamurodova gave cards 10 Access boys to write some positive messages for their girls on the card. In the end, they read their cards to their girls.
That day I loved my job very much. I was inspired by great women leaders during my exchange programs in the USA, Aziza was one of my students from the 5th grade. I taught her English, leadership skills and she was an active volunteer she was my follower, Now she is beside me as a leader. All the skills she obtained in her school and university years helped her to be the finalist of the SUSI program. She did her SUSI experience presentation and as a part of her project, she gave gifts to all the girls. Now she is confident with high self-esteem inspires ad to encourage other girls to get an education as it is the key to the bright future.
Happy International Girl's Day!

my students short writings

Writing: how a recent news story has affected you most.

Komil  Mahmadminov

Yesterday I saw in Safina a Tajik channel. I saw a thief and how police caught him with heroin (narcotics) and a gun in Panj. This news affected me very much. People who use drugs have no good jobs and that’s why they do bad things. I learned from this program that I will never go through tht road and will do my best to have a good profession and job and will ever use drugs. it is a very bad thing. The programs are very good.

Sumani Rustam
I always watch TV and watch one program. The  Gem  Food channel. In this program, you can learn different recipes and how to cook cakes, cupcakes, cookies, sandwiches and many other delicious dishes. The program affected me a lot. Because I learn some recipes and cooked at home a cake, a salad, cookies, and juice for our family. And  I got so many ideas on how to cook food, For example, this program helped me when we had a birthday I made a cake and at the EID festival I baked some cookies from watching this channel. I think ll Tajik women should be skillful and talented in cooking. And help others in future their skill and the food they cook to share with people who in need.

Usmonaly Sharipov
One day  I sat in front of the TV and watched one documentary program by the name “Tajikistan and the world”. It was about the importance of water, and I learned that in Africa, people are suffering from drought and they suffer and die. They have no opportunity to buy water and access to clean water. It was a lesson to me and I came to the conclusion that if we will not save our water and do not pollute it and do not value it we will also get into that situation and die. Water is a very precious thing we cannot live without it. I recommend others to use water in a proper way in rationally.  I will turn off the tap when I clean my teeth or do not use much water when taking a shower.

Manzura Alimova
I watched one news on Jahannamo channel about one person who was a very kind man. He helped poor people. His name was Mahmurod salimov. He is a benevolent person who does a lot of charity. He spends a lot of money on charity, especially to disabled people. This person always goes to the hospital and elderly house and give some medicines clothes food and money. He is a very successful businessperson.  This news was very important for me I learned something important for me.  We must do charity to those who in need. And our kind deeds will be written in our book of kind deeds and no one cake erase these actions or take away this from us. When I will be a very good interpreter in the future  I will spend half of my money on charity.

Bahriniso Qosimova
I watched recently news about our president who had an official visit to the Khatlon region. On this day, he attended and gave some speeches in the opening of several industrial factories name the plant Ganj because this plan now can provide many people with a job. Before our president arrives at the appointed place, the government officials give orders to clean the road. I thought to myself that I must study hard and be in a high position so that when I go somewhere people so get prepare for my visit before I arrive. I want in future to be a very important person that everyone respects me because of my knowledge.
Somon Qandakov
One day in one of the Tajik channel, I watched the news; it was about students who got the Mayor’s scholarship. Moreover, they got 250 somony, these students are very smart students and they have very great respect in their school I thought to myself. In addition, these students can visit any museum and library free. After this news, I become motivated and want to work harder and be a famous and respected student in my school. I decided to read books this summer because books have a lot of new information when you read you become smart. I set myself a goal after watching news till the next year I will read a lot of books and will work harder and by the new school year, I want to get this scholarship too.

Komil Mahmudov
On June 6th  I was in my classroom and with my classmates and a teacher and I heard one news from our teacher. One the day of Eid one child wanted to cross the road but suddenly the car hit him.  We were very sad. Eid is a very interesting holiday and children wait for this holiday and they go to house-to-house with their beautiful dress and bag in their hands to getting treats from each house. I learned that it is also dangerous because some small kids want to cross the road and go to another neighborhood to treat and do not look at the road. The big children do not look after their little brothers and sisters.  And I am so sorry for that child and it is very big pain for the parents to lose the child. I want and I wish that children look after their little brothers and sisters. In addition, I wat that kids do not go too far places.

My teaching reflection

Today We worked with a workbook   with the text The
The early history of Cinema. Students read the text about silent movies
and western movies and learned about all the history of the movie. New
words as cowboys and Hollywood and were introduced.  All the students know about Charlie Chaplin. As an example, I showed them the silent
movie of Charlie Chaplin at the hairdressers. Then students wrote a
few students about the movie they watched. Here are some of their
writing.

Now I know what silent movie is. It does not have a sound it has just
a sound of a piano played by the pianist.  The silent movie started in
1905 it was a moving picture show and acting one famous actor, Charlie
Chaplin. He is a funny actor.  By Komil Mahmudov

Silent movies were good. When I watched it I liked it. The famous
actor was Charlie Chaplin a funny man. In this kind of movie, the
actors don’t speak they move with their gestures and one pianist plays
the music. One thing I learned in silent movies you can’t see the name
of the movie and actors.  Mehrona Abdulloeva .

Students laughed during the movie I showed then and it seems that they
like this kind of movie. They asked to watch some more, And movies
about cowboys too.
Then the second part of my lesson I  asked the vocabulary of Food and
we learned about countable and uncountable nouns, Students classify
foods in these two groups. Then we had a listening activity where
students have to listen and find out who is Evan or  Nick a picky
eater. As homework students have to listen to the conversation of Nick
and Evan in the restaurant.

There lived a man in a very big house. He had no family and he was all alone in the house.  He was a teacher in private schools.  He always came home early after work and watched movies until midnight then he went to his bed. One day he woke up late and went to school late. The principal of the school did not like it and scolded him,. He was very upset and it was the unhappiest day of his life. After work, he walked to the nearest fast-food restaurant and had his supper there. He felt very tired and sleepy and went home. Suddenly he saw a stray dog and it chased him. He was very frightened and run very quickly. He lost his dream because of fear, he entered his house and put on his pajamas and went to watch TV. He watched a horror movie. Moreover, it scared him more, turned off the TV, and went upstairs to his bedroom.  Firstly, he went to the kitchen and drank a glass of water and then switched off the light in the kitchen and went to bed. He had lots of fear and slept with them. A nightmare woke him up. He got up and was thinking about his nightmare. Suddenly he heard some noises from the downstairs. He looked carefully from the upstairs, He went quietly downstairs, he heard some noises in the kitchen, its door was open, and the light was on. He went quietly with fears and in his thoughts was all about the ghost. He thought to see a ghost. However, when he reached the kitchen, fortunately, he saw a cat who broke the glass. He breathed deeply with relief, switched off the lights, and went to his bed.

In his Tajik home, he shared a room with his brother. But in the US everyone had their own room. He thought he could overcome this fear. Every night he had dreams about ghosts. One night he watched a ghost movie with his family and he was scared. The movie was about Halloween. After the movie, we wanted very much to go to bed but he could not sleep. He woke up at night and suddenly heard some noises from downstairs and came out from his room and sat down upstairs and saw the door of a kitchen was open and heard someone’s steps. My reflection about my lesson

  My reflection.
As warm up we sang the song 1.2.3.4.5 once I caught a fish alive. Here in this song, students learned two new irregular verbs and learned once more the question and negative form of past tense. Then I asked fat questions about the song. Why did the boy let the fish go? What happened to him? Why did he do that? Students answered that perhaps he got the golden fish and asked for 3 wishes and then let it go. It was fun discussion around the song and then students thought that they caught a golden fish and thought about 3 wishes. Majority of students wishes were about seeing their family and friend healthy and sound, having peaceful country, and going to America by Flex program. It was fun. Then our new topic was the story about the businessperson and the fisherman. First we listened the story two times and filled the blanks then we read and translated each sentences from English into Tajik in groups. Then students described the Fishermen’s daily routine and  the life of a rich businessman. Students explained what was the advice of businessperson to fisherman through questions and answer. Students came across with exclamatory sentence and the teacher explained   and gave some examples. In the story was one example: what a wonderful tuna! Students practiced the pronunciation of these sentences and gave their own sentences. As homework students will read and will retell the story with their own words and think about the moral of this story.

Fat Questions

Yesterday I attended a mini-workshop conducted by English language Specialist Mis Lynette about fat and skinny question. at the beginning of the presentation when she asked what do you like to be fat or skinny? I said skinny of course. Then in the middle of presentation, I changed my mind and wanted to be the way I am now.
Fat questions are
(higher-order thinking skills,
longer answers)
Skinny questions are:
(lower-order thinking skills,
short answers)

I work very hard that my students develop their thinking skills and when I ask them to question I teach them to think a little then answer, But most our students do not want to think they answer very fast without thinking even if I give them time to think. But I keep trying to ask fat questions in every reading text. I give them questions to think. I asked fat questions when we read a tale about Husnigul a girl.  My example of fat questions was: can you describe two worlds where did Husnigul live? what is your opinion about Khorgul a bad girl? what do you think about this: beauty isn't in appearance but in deeds? etc

This is a classroom I'd like to have where students think about the question and the teacher gives thinking time and then students raise a hand.

Hve you ever played it? It was fun. We learned Months and dates from HeadwaybStarter book. Then i suggested to play. First students had no idea how to communicate non verbally ?
